This summer for the first time in Ecuador, graduate students in the health professions will be formally trained in prosthetics. Students from Universidad Tecnica del Norte, working in conjunction with Protesis para la Vida, will participate in a ten-week course in prosthetics with hands on experience and classroom learning. This effort by North American volunteers will begin to address the severe shortage of prosthetists in Ecuador (fewer than 20 professionals to serve the needs of the entire country).
