![]() | BryanBryan, a 19 year old engineering student, did not want to give up his plans after losing both arms in a car accident in November 2009. His wife had just given birth to his first child. He searched for a way to obtain prostheses, but the cost was far out of reach of his family. He then learned about Protesis para la Vida, and traveled 19 hours by bus with his mother to the clinic. In April 2010 he received a below elbow prosthesis for the left and an above elbow prosthesis for the right side, and returned to Loja to his studies and his family. |
![]() | CarlitaCarlita, age 18 months, was born without a leg below the knee. When she came to the clinic she was very angry that these strangers kept looking at her leg. After she was fitted with her prosthesis, she immediately started standing and taking wobbly steps. Two weeks later Carlita came back and she wasn’t mad anymore. She took running lunges between her mom and whoever was holding out their arms. Carlita will need continual adjustments and new parts as she grows. |

![]() | JostinJostin, age 4, managed to do a lot with his right foot, because it was the only intact limb that he was born with. When he received a prosthesis for his left leg from Protesis para la Vida, in October 2009, he was able to walk independently within a few weeks. In January 2010 he started the process of being fitted with arms. A pair of prostheses had been donated by an older child who had outgrown them. They were refurbished with new parts purchased through donations from individuals in the US. We hope to keep Jostin updated with prostheses as he grows and changes. He will be starting school in the fall |
